After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1963,
Mr. Karge taught physics for the
San Dieguito Union High School District (Encinitas, California),
and was Faculty Advisor of the Rocketry and Astronomy Club.

Mr. Karge passed away in 1990. The following year,
an asteroid discovered in 1986 was officially named
(4822) Karge by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
